General, Deep Cleaning, and Sealants
It is usually recommended to visit your dentist every three to four months for cleanings.
Deep cleaning also known as scaling and root planning, is very thorough cleaning of the tooth root surfaces from plaque and calculus. This procedure is recommended when a patient shows significant signs of gum disease, such as bleeding gums, pus, accumulation of calculus under the gum, deep gum pockets, and loss of bone.
The term ‘dental sealant’ refers to a plastic resin that a dentist bonds into the grooves of the chewing surface of a tooth as a means of helping to prevent the formation of tooth decay.
